Who is Brent?

I wear a lot of hats and live out a number of roles. Each is an integral part of me, and I am the sum total of all of it.

I am part of a family. I’m the father of three young men, doing my best to be present for them and to live in a way where my actions reflect my words. I’m a husband, grateful to walk through life with someone who knows both my strengths and my blind spots. My family is one of the most important parts of my life. I value our relationships and cherish the memories we’re making together.

I’m a thinker. I spend a lot of time reading, reflecting, and engaging with ideas around politics, religion, technology, and culture. But more than anything, I think about what it means to be an imperfect human in a complex world.

Professionally, I’ve spent many years in tech and leadership, helping teams build things that (hopefully) make the world a little better. But that’s just one part of the picture. I care about how we treat each other, how we grow, and who we become while fulfilling our vocation.

I write because it helps me process. It slows me down. It forces me to pay attention to what I’m thinking, what I’m questioning, and how I’m changing through this process. When I write, it is not because I have it all figured out—far from it. Rather, it’s because being engaged and being integral requires saying things out loud. To engage. To learn.
